Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years later as an general reporter. Beginning in 1981 she began covering the White House. In 1988, she became chief congressional reporter. In 1992, she was appointed Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was an anchor and a panelist on the TV news program Meet the Press. She served on an advisory panel during the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in journalism. In 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy reports, including arm control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
